Mindfulness (MBCT & MBSR)

Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an approach that has been shown to be helpful for people who are struggling with challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress and trauma.

I have found that learning the skills of mindfulness gives a valuable advantage for almost all people who are embracing therapy. I am experienced in teaching mindfulness as a key therapeutic approach, which is generally taught using an 8 session course. I am also keen to teach mindfulness as a helpful addition to the self-regulation skills needed for EMDR therapy. MBCT is a non-religious, well-grounded and evidence-based treatment which I am very familiar with adapting to individual needs.

Mindfulness is cultivated through practicing specific meditations focusing on the present moment, and being fully aware of thoughts and feelings without judgment. This can help develop a greater sense of control and calmness, self compassion and acceptance, even in the midst of distressing memories or emotions.

Being more fully present, non-judgmentally, can enable people to feel more steady, and help in loosening the grip of negative or anxious thinking patterns.

Learning the skills of mindful awareness can empower people to regulate the physical and emotional responses to stress, and be a helpful tool in the overall treatment and management of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

MBCT emphasises the importance of self-compassion and self-care, which can help build resilience and develop healthier coping mechanisms, leading to an improved sense of well-being and quality of life.
