I have extensive training and experience in using Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) as a comprehensive psychotherapy.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach recommended for the treatment of trauma (you may like to watch a short YouTube animation for more information on EMDR).
EMDR is a powerful and effective way to reduce the symptoms of trauma. In addition, I have found that Mindfulness-based approaches are particularly valuable when integrated with EMDR therapy, contributing to reducing distress, increasing sense of empowerment and recovery, and improving sense of well-being.
Other approaches can also be helpfully integrated, contributing to an individualised treatment approach for effective therapy. This includes Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). My background in Person Centred Therapy also informs my therapeutic work.
During your first sessions we can discuss the issues you wish to focus on. We can consider present and past psychological well-being, previous aversive or traumatic life events, physical health and general background information which will help me understand your situation and the type and intensity of your difficulties, such as anxiety, relationship problems, low mood and post-traumatic symptoms. This will help to us to decide together how to proceed with the therapy, and to plan appropriate goals.
